The United States Supreme Court is scheduled to announce its decision this month on whether same sex marriage is a Constitutional right.  The Federal government admitted during its presentation in favor of same sex marriage that if the Court affirms it, churches and Christian non-profit organizations that refuse to yield may well become targets of government action. 

Something happened in the winter of 1944-1945 that changed the soul of America. The war in Europe was grinding on. By the Fall everyone in the United States who could be drafted had been called up. The British literally had no new men left to fill their ranks. The Germans staffed their divisions at half strength with old men and young boys. Everyone else was wounded or dead.

Spreading Grace: Common Grace and Doctors Without Borders

One of the more distinctive doctrines of Reformed Christianity is that of common grace. Michael Horton defines it as “God’s bestowal of a variety of gifts and blessings on Christians and non-Christians alike, such as health, intelligence, friendship, vocation, family, government, art, science, etc. Common grace upholds fallen humanity, but it is not saving.”[1]

When ISIS released the video of twenty-one Egyptians being beheaded on a Libyan beach, the world blanched once more in shock and horror.   And once more the morally obtuse American government remained silent on two critical points.  The first was that the orange-suited victims were in fact Christians.  And the second was that the perpetrators of their monstrous deaths were in fact radicalized Muslims. 

Let’s get this out right away: we still have a long way to go. We have longer to go than I thought we did, frankly, after electing our first African American president to the highest political office in the land.

As a Christmas gift to Fidel Castro, President Obama unilaterally announced that the United States would end its fifty-two year embargo of Cuba and begin taking steps to restore normal relations.

One must ever bear in mind the occupation of Barak Obama.  He is often referred to as a professor, an expert on Constitutional Law.  But that is not it.  Barak Obama from his beginnings has been a “Community Organizer.”  Even in the White House, that is what he remains.

The mainstream media are blacking out the story that Fox News has reported relentlessly.  Dr. Jonathan Gruber, the M.I. T. economics professor who was the chief designer of the Affordable Care Act, has been caught on video five times and counting.  He has boasted that the ObamaCare law was sold to a “stupid” American public as a deliberate lie.  It was composed in “torturous language” to obscure the fact that it would never deliver what President Obama and the law’s promoters promised. 

In Houston a strong reaction has emerged against the assault on religious liberty and freedom of speech by the mayor and the City Council.  Sunday night, November 2, Houston pastors and their supporters held a national protest called, “I Stand Sunday.” 

On a Fox News program, Sunday, October 26, Eric Metaxas called for a revolt.  Metaxas is the author of the best seller,“Bonhoeffer, Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy.” He said he read about the Houston city government subpoenaing the sermons of five Houston pastors and couldn’t believe it.

A few days ago a kindergarten student named Elizabeth, a little five-year-old girl who lives in Mobile, Alabama, drew something at school that looked like a gun.  Then, laughing, she pointed a crayon at a fellow student and said, “Bang! Bang!”  The teacher took the weapon away from the child and promptly marched her down to the principal’s office. 

 Are you feeling a little nervous now that Ebola is here in the United States?

The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta and virtually all the other experts assure us we do not need to worry.  But maybe we should.  At least a little.
