Do you know John Murray’s Payton lectures at Fuller Seminary, Principles of Conduct? It’s a wise and searching look on just what it means to obey God, culminating with a chapter on the fear of God, where Murray looks closely at an arresting attribute, the Fear of Isaac.
Add a commentAs a psychologist and seminary professor, I frequently entertain questions about the timeline for forgiveness and reconciliation in situations of domestic or familial sexual abuse. Most frequently, church leaders want to know when it is appropriate to encourage a victim of abuse to allow an offender back into the home or life.
Add a commentOn Sunday, September 22, 2013, Rev. Rick Tyson, my pastor, preached the best sermon I have ever heard on this subject. Below is the link to the YouTube video of that sermon. Watch it and worship! My church is Calvary Presbyterian Church in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Both Rick and the church are members of the WRF.

The Egyptian military’s crackdown on the supporters of overthrown president Morsi has drawn a pointed rebuke from the American government. President Obama said on August 15, “The United States strongly condemns the steps that have been taken by Egypt’s interim government and security forces. We deplore violence against citizens.”

One of my first cases as a counseling intern in Philadelphia was with a 12-year-old girl who was cutting herself and involved in a lesbian threesome. I worked at the Christian Counseling Educational Foundation, and her mom brought her in along with a baby sister who crawled around the room and knocked over a floor lamp during our first session.

As I grew up in an Iowa town, we were all pretty much the same. All white though sunburned, all with jobs, no one in any danger.
Add a commentFirst, full disclosure. I don’t know anything about what’s going on. But for that matter, neither do you. That information is being closely held by the intelligence community and by the Muckety-Mucks of the American government.

I’m a Presbyterian Church guy, but I’m of the A kind, not the USA kind (follow me?).
Add a commentAt the 41st General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America this past June, during the presentation of the Study Committee Report on Insider Movements, the hottest issue was the concern of the use of “Allah” for God and the possible confusion or identity of the God of the Bible with Allah of the Quran.

Add a commentRecent allegations of sexual abuse and cover-up within a well known international ministry and subsequent public statements by several evangelical leaders have angered and distressed many, both inside and outside of the Church.
